Just keep good oil up to the full mark and change it on a regular basis and the timing chain should last the life of the car. -Mike. 1987 Monte Carlo SS - 5.3/4L80E - 13.67 @ 103.7. 2007 Focus ZX5 - 103K miles. 2007 Focus Estate - 183K miles - 35mpg - Scrapped.
Loosen the bolt on the timing belt tensioner and remove both bolt and tensioner, followed by the timing belt. Replace the idler with the new one from the Dayco kit KTBWP4930 and tighten the nut to 35Nm. Using another suitable pin, hold the fuel injection pump pulley in the correct position and then remove the water pump.
The remaining petrol engines all use timing belts. The three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine's belt change interval is a massive 240,000 kilometres or 10 years, the 1.6 EcoBoost's is 200,000 kilometres or 10 years (as is the newer 1.5 EcoBoost's) and the older 1.6 Ti-VCT engine's belt must be changed every 160,000 kilometres or eight years.
From my research, the 1.5 Dragon in the Bronco Sport has a timing chain. There are other versions of the 3 cylinder that have belts, but not the one in the Bronco Sport. My manual (page 414) says the accessory drive belts should be changed at 150,000 miles. There are other threads that discuss this topic.
